Local Woman, Ginger Gibbs, Road Rage Victim of Highway Shooting
10/20/25 - In the early morning hours of August 28th, 51 year old mother, Ginger Gibbs, was found inside a bullet ridden truck in the median of westbound 1-96 (near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Cedar Street) with a bullet wound in the head. She was rushed to U of M Health Sparrow in critical condition, and Daylyn Huff of WLNS 6 reported that Gibbs was awake and talking again on September 9th. Multiple sources, Gibbs, and police investigators believe that the shooting happened because of road rage, but the investigation is still on going, and anyone with information about the shooting can call Crime Stoppers at 517-483-STOP (7867).
As Gibbs went to pass another vehicle on I-96, someone fired multiple shots towards her vehicle, one bullet of which went through the back cabin window of her truck and struck her head. An inside source reported to Krumnow of Now News, that miraculously, before Gibbs passed out from the wound, she was able to call 9-1-1 herself.
Although Gibbs is now recovering at home, she was released from the hospital 9 days after the shooting, even though, inside sources stated she needed 24/7 care from the gun shot sound. Her recovery from the crime is far from over, even on September 24th, the publication date of this article. Gibb’s daughter, Lyon, reported to Fox 47 that "They want to do some OP therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy to make sure she can go back to herself."
There is a Blingo Bing Fundraiser happening October 22, 2025 at Tony M’s with doors opening at 6 PM. Two rounds from 6:30-7:30 PM and 8-9 PM, with $5 a card or 3 cards for $10. If you’re unable to attend, there is a GoFundMe available for Gibbs, as stated by Lyon: “The Fundraiser along with thee Go Fund Me will help my mom with her bills, any medical expenses that aren't covered by insurance, and any personal things she may need as she can no longer work until she is medically clear which could take a few months."
